Morocco Braces for Extreme Heat Wave as Temperatures Approach 50°C (122°F)

The weather will be hotter than expected due to the rise of a dry and hot air mass from the South, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
Morocco is not done with the intense heat. Temperatures are expected to exceed the monthly average by 5 to 10 degrees. "This heat wave, of the Chergui type, will affect the majority of the country, particularly our southern provinces, the Souss, the plains of Tadla, Al-haouz, Rhamna, Chiadma, Tensift, the phosphate-Oulmess plateaus, the Saiss, the Gharb, the Loukkous, Chaouia, Abda, the Oriental and the southeast of the country," the DGM specified in a press release.
From Friday to Sunday (Eid Al-Adha), the maximum temperatures forecast will range between 46 and 49 degrees, in the southern provinces and the interior regions of Souss, Chiadma and Abda. During the same period, temperatures will be between 39 and 45 degrees in the Souss regions, the Tadla, Al-Haouz, Rhamna, Chiadma, Tansift plains, the phosphate and Oulmès plateaus, Saïss, Loukous and the interior regions of the West, Chaouia and Doukkala, in addition to the eastern and southeastern regions of the country, the DGM points out, warning that this excessive heat is likely to extend until next week.
