Morocco Braces for Eid Al-Adha as COVID-19 Deaths Rise Ahead of Festival

A few days before the celebration of Eid Al-Adha, Morocco is recording more and more deaths related to Covid-19. Moroccans fear that the epidemiological situation will worsen with the celebration on Sunday, the feast of sacrifice.
The epidemiological peak expected for this week seems to have been reached with the death on Tuesday of 11 people. Faced with the concerns of Moroccans, the experts call for calm. For them, this number of deaths is the most normal thing, in the sense that it results from the large number of patients admitted to the resuscitation and intensive care services, said Professor Saïd Moutawakil, member of the scientific committee to fight against Covid-19 in a statement to Hespress.
"If we compare the number of deaths and the number of cases detected daily with the previous epidemic waves, the number remains low, with a level reaching about 80% less," he adds. He recalls that the "convalescence rate in emergencies does not exceed 3.5%, so it is normal." According to him, the next few days are likely to be difficult with an increase in positive cases and deaths. This is a situation that concerns Morocco, but also certain European countries.
As for the people who died on Tuesday, they were mostly elderly and suffered from chronic diseases. Saïd Moutawakil took the opportunity to recall the importance of vaccination against the coronavirus and compliance with barrier measures. For him, the time is no longer for the taking of restrictive measures, but for the respect of the basic rules established for a return to normal.
