Morocco’s Boufal Clarifies World Cup Victory Dedication After African Backlash

After forgetting to mention Africa in an interview given to BeIn following Morocco’s victory over Spain, Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal backtracks and corrects the record.
"We just wrote history, the emotions we had during this match are incredible. This victory belongs to the entire Moroccan people, all the Arab peoples, and all the Muslims in the world," Sofiane Boufal said in an interview with beIN Sport. A phrase that went viral on social media and sparked the discontent of African supporters, who have been standing behind Morocco since the start of the World Cup.
For many observers, the Moroccan players do not consider themselves African. Faced with the controversy, Sofiane Boufal posted on social media a message of correction, apologizing to all the African supporters he had omitted to mention. "Sorry for forgetting to mention the entire African continent on Tuesday in the post-match interview. Thank you for being behind us, I also dedicate the victory to you obviously. We are proud to represent all our brothers on the continent. Together," the player wrote on Instagram.
