Morocco’s Bottled Water Prices Among World’s Highest, World Bank Report Finds

The high cost of the main products in the food consumption basket is a reality in Morocco. In its latest report on the Moroccan private sector, the World Bank mentions the causes. These are regulatory distortions and lack of competition.
As an example, the report looked at bottled water, which is one of the "main consumer products whose price has attracted a lot of attention in Morocco in recent years".
Thus, the results of a national assessment confirm that the price of bottled water in Morocco is indeed significantly higher than in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and, beyond that, specifies the World Bank.
Indeed, the average price in Morocco is about 17% higher than in a set of MENA, OECD and some other neighboring countries.
Furthermore, the results of a comparative price study between the main cities show an even higher price gap: the residents of Casablanca pay on average about 50% more for bottled water than the residents of similar cities in the MENA region.
