Morocco Boosts Police Force with 300 High-Tech Vehicles in Modernization Drive

Friday 23 February 2024, by Sylvanus

The Moroccan police have acquired new highly technically equipped cars, motorcycles and utility vehicles. This equipment is part of a vast operation to modernize the fleet of police vehicles at the regional and local level launched by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The fleet of police vehicles at the regional and local level is expanding with the first tranche of the vehicle modernization operation. More than 300 utility vehicles have been made available to the public security and judicial police teams responsible for field interventions in public spaces, including the mobile teams of the emergency police, the teams fighting against gangs, the tourist police and the law enforcement units, as well as the mixed teams responsible for securing the surroundings of educational institutions. These utility vehicles have also, for the first time, been provided for the cells for the care of women victims of violence and the sports security cells. This is a qualitative leap in supporting the new missions carried out by these specialized teams. This follows the evolution that has occurred in their functional skills, especially in the face of future challenges related to the organization of major sporting, political and economic events at the continental and international levels.

The DGSN has also proceeded with a complete and progressive update of the fleet of vehicles in the police stations - the police structure closest to the citizens - which currently number a total of 454. Modern specially equipped cars have been made available to them in order to meet the needs of citizens related to community policing. As for the scientific and technical police services, they benefit from more than 20 vehicles, intended to intervene at crime scenes, collect and preserve evidence, and transport it to the scientific and technical police laboratories.

The DGSN also plans to update the fleet of special cars for the urban police teams, the rescue, traffic and patrol teams, and the road accident inspection teams. These teams will be equipped with light cars and two- and four-wheeled motorcycles of different capacities and sizes, aimed at improving the services of national security in public spaces, and responding to the aspirations and expectations of citizens for the police public service. The DGSN also intends to strengthen the central services of national security with new cars and special vehicles, including vehicles for the technical and engineering teams responsible for managing computer systems, wireless communication networks, as well as others for the close protection teams, official travel, the National Judicial Police Unit and the protection of sensitive facilities, in addition to strengthening the police health services with fully equipped ambulances.

For the record, the DGSN equipped the police services with a similar lot of rolling stock (885 new generation cars and motorcycles) in 2023.
