Morocco Boosts Military Spending by 30%, Shifts to US and French Suppliers

Morocco has increased its military spending by more than 30% in 2020. An investment deemed disproportionate compared to the kingdom’s GDP, according to some experts.
As part of its strategy to strengthen and modernize its army, Morocco has abandoned Spain, which had been its main supplier of military equipment and materials since 1990, in favor of the United States and France. With these new partners, Morocco has strengthened its army by acquiring aircraft, tanks and warships, reports El Confidencial Digital.

In detail, Morocco has bought new F-16s from the United States and has modernized the existing ones at Lockheed Martin. Also, the Royal Air Force will soon take possession of one of the coveted F-35s on an international scale. Manufactured in Texas, it is considered the best combat aircraft in the world.
This modernization of the Moroccan army does not worry Spain, specifies the newspaper, which estimates that for the moment, the recurring tensions between the two countries are only of a political nature. Similarly, Algeria is not concerned by this dynamic of Morocco to modernize its army, especially since the disagreements with the kingdom have not yet gone beyond the diplomatic or political level.
