Morocco Boosts Compensation Fund by 15 Billion Dirhams Amid Price Hikes and Drought

Due to the rise in prices linked to the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the drought that has been raging in the kingdom since the beginning of the year, the budget of the compensation fund should increase by more than 15 billion dirhams. The Akhannouch government hopes to maintain the purchasing power of Moroccans.
During his appearance in parliament as part of the monthly oral question session, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch reviewed "the situation of the national economy in the light of climate and geopolitical changes".
Faced with criticism from the opposition accusing him of inactivity against the effects of these exogenous shocks, Akhannouch indicated that the executive has committed to coordinating with all professionals in order to stabilize prices and maintain their appropriate and usual level, stressing that mass consumer products have been subject to continuous control and monitoring.
And to note that in light of the current global context marked by uncertainty and inflationary tensions, the government says it attaches "crucial importance" to monitoring price developments and has taken a series of measures to ensure their stability in order to preserve the purchasing power of Moroccan households.
In this sense, he recalled that financial support has been granted to transport professionals to mitigate the rise in fuel prices. About 180,000 vehicles from different professional categories will benefit from this aid, he stressed, adding that other measures will be taken to mitigate the effects of the rise in raw material prices on SMEs operating within the framework of public contracts.
