Morocco Boosts Civil Servant Pay: 400-500 Dirham Monthly Raise for 700,000 Workers

A wage increase that should delight Moroccan civil servants but not the state budget. This increase also concerns the social benefits paid to civil servants’ families.
Following the social dialogue between the government and the trade union centers, it was agreed to increase the salaries of civil servants, on average by 400 to 500 dirhams per month, as detailed by the website Médias24.
Thus, a 500 dirham per month increase was announced for civil servants whose scale is less than 10, which should concern around 700,000 civil servants.
A 400 dirham monthly salary increase is planned for civil servants in scale 6 and scale higher than 10, specifies the same source.
In addition to these increases, the government has also planned several benefits such as 100 dirhams more for family allowances and 136 dirhams from the 3rd child. A subsidy of 700 dirhams for those working in remote areas and a childbirth allowance of 1000 dirhams whereas it was only 100 dirhams until now.
If we add up these increases as well as the benefits, the cost to the state budget should be around 8 billion dirhams by 2021 when all these increases will be fully integrated into the Finance Act.
