Morocco Bolsters Air Defense with Israeli Barak 8 Missile System Purchase
One of the fallouts of the visit to Morocco by the Israeli Defense Minister is the sale of the medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) system. It is a missile capable of neutralizing aerial threats such as enemy fighter jets, missiles, helicopters and unmanned aerial devices at a distance of 70 km.
Morocco has just made an acquisition that is likely to cause a stir on the Algerian side. It is one of the agreements signed during Benny Gantz’s visit. Relations between the two countries in the field of military aviation are developing much faster than expected, and Morocco could soon host weapon factories sponsored by Tel Aviv and bases that will serve as a testing ground for operational drones in various fields.
"The Moroccan military teams have already tested this system and noted its unprecedented characteristics, making it an additional asset dedicated to the protection of the Kingdom’s sky," says the Far Maroc forum, which also mentions the possibility of developing the F-5 fighters.
The same source adds that Barak 8 "Lightning", also known as LR-SAM or MR-SAM, measures 4.5 meters long and reaches a maximum speed of Mach 3, with a maximum range of 100 km.
