Morocco Berry Packing Plant Outbreak: Industry Group Responds to COVID-19 Cluster

Following the many cases of Covid-19 contamination recorded in a red fruit packaging unit in Lalla Mimouna, not far from Kénitra, the Moroccan Interprofessional Federation of Red Fruits (Interproberries Maroc) provides clarification.
In a press release, the federation says it "deeply regrets the cases that have been recorded in the Lalla Maimouna region, which are all asymptomatic carriers of the virus", adding that "according to the World Health Organization, they do not transmit the infection if safety standards are respected".
According to Interproberries Maroc, the press through media and audiovisual coverage "has succeeded in conveying to public opinion the discipline and alignment of industrial units and production units in the application of health safety standards represented by the safety distance and social distancing, the installation of protective barriers between the workers, the reduction of the number of passengers by more than 50%, in addition to the coverage of the cost of transport which has tripled or even quadrupled, the sterilization of transport, the provision of more than 700,000 masks, the formation of committees on the ground to raise awareness and supervise the workers".
"Despite all these efforts, the behavior of individuals and groups outside working hours remains uncontrollable," laments the federation chaired by Mohamed Al Amouri, stating that the hundreds of workers and employees declared positive for the coronavirus contracted it outside the workplace and not during the performance of their duties.
Interproberries Maroc is committed to continuing the mobilization and efforts to protect all people and stakeholders in the sector.
