Morocco Battles New COVID-19 Clusters as Cases Surge Across Multiple Regions

The detection of new outbreaks of infection across the territory is not likely to facilitate the fight against the spread of Covid-19.
New outbreaks of infection are emerging in Morocco. The Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia focuses on the regional distribution of Covid-19 outbreaks. The Borj Fès shopping center has recorded an outbreak with 47 cases. This has led the officials of the territorial directorate of the city hall of Fès-Meknes to further circumscribe their control perimeter, in order to isolate the contaminated neighborhoods in Fès-Meknes.
Several regions of the kingdom are recording Covid-19 outbreaks. The newspaper reports the appearance of two clusters in Gzenaya and Aouama, with 36 cases, while the city of Casablanca is recording a dozen outbreaks. In the Casablanca-Settat region, more and more cases are being counted. 166 confirmed cases were recently recorded there. With the appearance of several family clusters in Marrakech and Essaouira as well as in the province of El Haouz, the toll is likely to increase. We must also count the 120 cases detected in Ouarzazate at the city’s prison.
Faced with the rapid spread of the virus, several challenges remain to be met in the immediate future by the regions, to strengthen the national strategy for managing the pandemic. Thus, the local authorities of the affected regions are redoubling their efforts to contain the evolution of the virus. Specific measures are being taken to this effect. Because if things remain as they are, the efforts made by the authorities risk being in vain.
