Morocco Bans New Year’s Eve Hotel Parties Amid COVID-19 Concerns

The Moroccan authorities fear a new wave of contamination during the end-of-year holiday period. In this regard, they have required hoteliers to close their establishments to the public before 8 p.m. on December 31st.
Hotels are invited not to host parties or remain open during New Year’s Eve, reports Hespress. All hotel managers have been informed of this decision, assures the president of the National Federation of the Hotel Industry (FNIH). According to Lahcen Zelmat, the tourism sector has been heavily impacted by the closure of the cities of Casablanca and Marrakech, and travel restrictions.
According to him, the light at the end of the tunnel is not yet near. The president of the FNIH estimates that the recovery of the sector will not be effective until next April, while a return to normal is expected in March 2022. "During New Year’s Eve, there will be no entry or exit from hotels throughout the Kingdom, no entertainment, so no one will come for anything," he hammered, specifying that only the vaccine and its success in Morocco and in the world is a source of hope.
According to the top official of the FNIH, the sector has seen a significant decline due to the complexity of medical tests, and the risk for foreigners of staying in Morocco in case of infection.
