Morocco Bans Over 300 Harmful Pesticides to Protect Public Health

The National Office of Sanitary Safety of Food Products (ONSSA) has decided to withdraw from the market more than 300 active ingredients, belonging to agricultural pesticide products that pose dangers to human and animal health.
This decision comes following a large-scale control operation on fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products consumed locally, on which traces of pesticides have been detected, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
A few weeks ago, the Dutch authorities had refused the import into their territory of a shipment of Moroccan citrus fruits, after the detection of traces of pesticides.
This situation has prompted the reaction of the Moroccan authorities who have initiated a parallel awareness-raising action with farmers in order to train them in agricultural practices that combine the proper use of authorized pesticides, meeting national and international standards and respect for the environment.
