Morocco Bans Mobile Phones in Prisons to Enhance Security

Mobile phones are now banned in penitentiary institutions for security reasons.
This is the new requirement imposed in penitentiary institutions by the Delegate General of the Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), Mohamed Saleh Tamek.
According to the head of the DGAPR, this procedure aims to "regulate the prison space and adopt a preventive approach, in order to reduce the risks related to the use of mobile phones inside penitentiary institutions". This regulation also aims to "fight against certain practices and behaviors that violate the legislation in force".
However, the new rule does not only concern the staff of the institution, but also the visitors of the prisoners.
Furthermore, the use of the service telephone is also prohibited, except for the director and the person in charge of public affairs of the DGAPR, or the persons in charge of replacing them if they are absent.
