Morocco Bans Aging Gas Cylinders to Improve Safety, Prevent Accidents

Gas cylinders over 40 years old will now be removed from the market. The government has decided to ban them to avoid the many tragedies of which they are the source.

In the sights of the elected officials, obsolete gas cylinders, sources of fatal accidents, due to their expiration or the existence of manufacturing defects, will no longer be used, reports the daily Al Massae, adding that the government has set the age limit of cylinders at 40 years for those of 12 kg and 30 years for those of 3 kg.

The Minister of Equipment, Transport and Logistics, Aziz Rabah, announced that all gas cylinders that do not meet this regulation will be banned and destroyed.

To this end, gas cylinders are subject to technical inspection before being placed on the market. These checks consist of meticulous examinations during manufacture and resistance tests to ensure the cylinder’s ability to withstand pressure, in addition to mandatory hydraulic tests after manufacture and during the use phases, specifies the minister.
