Morocco Awaits Round of 16 Opponent in AFCON 2024: Tunisia, Egypt Among Potential Matchups

Already qualified for the round of 16, Morocco will face Zambia on Wednesday for the third and final group stage match of this 2024 AFCON. What are the potential opponents of the Atlas Lions in the next round?
With four points in the standings, Morocco has already validated its ticket for the round of 16 even before its last group match scheduled for this Wednesday against Zambia. If they finish first in group six, they will face the second of group five, which includes Tunisia, South Africa, Namibia and Mali, in the round of 16. If Walid Regragui’s protégés finish second in group six, they will challenge Egypt (seven-time AFCON winner) in the next round. If Morocco finishes third in the group, they will cross swords with the first of group three, Senegal, or the first of group four, which is Angola, with Algeria being definitively eliminated. The Atlas Lions could therefore play against Senegal on Monday, January 29 at 9pm or face Angola on Saturday, January 27 at 6pm.
Morocco remains the leader of group six with four points, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia tied (two points). Tanzania is in fourth and last position with one point.
Before the kick-off of the Morocco-Zambia match, Walid Regragui reassures: "There is no easy match. We are playing for first place to stay in San Pedro. There is therefore pressure on us. We are focused on bringing back the three points. Zambia has nothing to lose. It will be a tactical match. It’s a good opposition for us for the warm-up before the round of 16. [...] Regarding the team, we have to be careful with the yellow cards."
