Morocco’s Avocado Exports Set to Surge 20% as Hass Production Expands

For the 2021-2022 season, the volume of avocado exports grown in Morocco is expected to increase to reach 40,000 tons, or 15 to 20% more than the previous year.
This performance is attributable to the entry into production of new Hass variety orchards, which provide the bulk of the shipments destined for export mainly to the European Union (EU), said the magazine Fruitrop from Cirad.
"The first Hass exports began during the first part of November, a little ahead of the usual schedule. Arrivals on the community market should continue to gain momentum, peaking in December and continuing in January," it is specified.
If this forecast is achieved, Morocco would come close to the second largest African exporter of avocado, South Africa, the magazine notes, according to which the kingdom is currently the 11th largest global supplier of the fruit.
