Morocco Averts Gas Shortage Threat During Ramadan as Distributors Cancel Strike

The strike of gas distributors in Morocco will not take place during Ramadan. The association of gas distributors has just held a meeting with the government and the supervisory ministry, this Monday, April 29.
The threat of a strike raised by professionals in the sector at the beginning of the month is no longer effective, following the meeting with Minister Lahcen Daoudi and the government. Households will not suffer from shortages either during the holy month or afterwards, according to Hespress.
The president of the association, Mohamed Benjelloun, said that "discussions are currently open with the government and Minister Lahsen Daoudi, to find solutions that meet the demands of professionals in the sector, particularly regarding the increase in fuel prices, which is a problem for gas distributors in the kingdom."
To recall, the tug-of-war between the two parties concerned taxes and the new invoice formulations imposed by the 2019 Finance Act. In this sense, the professionals have proposed the adoption of a defined rate of the number of transactions carried out, as well as the removal of the stamp and electronic invoicing.
The delegate minister in charge of general affairs and governance has committed to reviewing the provisions adopted by the Directorate General of Taxes, in particular Article 145 which has led to an outcry from professionals.
