Morocco’s Auto Sales Surge 37% in Q1 2021, Signaling Recovery

The automotive market in Morocco is finally regaining its pre-crisis momentum. In March 2021, 16,717 new vehicles were sold, an increase of 18.46% compared to February 2021.
Following a year 2020 marked by a health crisis, vehicle sales are on the rise in 2021. Since the beginning of the year, sales have increased by 37.4% compared to the first quarter of 2020, for a total of 44,163 new cars sold. For the month of March 2021, a total of 16,717 new vehicles of all segments were sold, an increase of 18.46% compared to February 2021, according to statistics from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (Aivam).
Regarding registrations, the increase is 165.14% compared to sales in March 2020. By segment, passenger vehicles (VP) recorded 39,129 registrations in the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 37%, while 5,034 light commercial vehicles (LCV) were sold over the same period, an increase of 40.14%.
Dacia leads the brands with 11,929 units sold since the beginning of the year, up 25%, for a market share (PDM) of 27%. Renault follows with 5,732 registrations since the beginning of the year, i.e. +43% and a market share of 12.98%. The Korean brand Hyundai is in third place with 3,486 new cars sold, i.e. +39.22% and a PDM of 7.89%.
