Morocco’s Auto Sales Slump: New Vehicle Market Drops 6.5% in 2019

During a press conference, the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM) unveiled the performance of the automotive sector at the end of 2019. It appears that the market is doing worse and worse.
Figures in hand, the officials of the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco provided the realities of the automotive sector in the kingdom. In total, for the past year, 165,918 cars were sold, reports Challenge. According to the officials, a 6.5% decline compared to 2018 is to be noted. They also stressed that this poor performance is due to the 9.1% drop in the PC segment on the market.
On the other hand, in the PC segment, the SUV segment is experiencing a real success, followed by the city car, MPV and compact segments, they point out. In the LCV segment, it is the pickup segment that has seduced. The used car segment, on the other hand, is still successful, all brands except Lexus and Volvo are in decline.
AIVAM took the opportunity to unveil its 2020 Automotive Observatory. This is a survey conducted by the Nielsen firm, which allows all the players involved in the automotive sector to be informed about market trends.
Essentially, it should be noted, according to the Observatory, that while Europe is at 35% use of diesel, Morocco is at 82%. But above all, it should be noted that only 8% of Moroccans were equipped with a car in 2019, while the equipment rate for Morocco should reach 200-250 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, the same source reveals.
