Morocco’s Auto Sales Show Signs of Recovery After COVID-19 Slump

The automotive sector seems to be regaining good health after hitting rock bottom due to the crisis related to the coronavirus. According to statistics from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), for the month of June 2020, they show the first signs of a recovery in sales in the Moroccan automotive market.
The months of March, April, and May recorded the lowest rates in terms of vehicle sales. The passenger car segment, for example, experienced "a drop of 85.02% in May, and stands at 8,264 units sold in June 2020, a drop of 36.4% compared to June 2019," reports ecoactu.ma.
As for light commercial vehicles (LCVs), the drop is 7.96% in June 2020 compared to June 2019, where 1,387 units were sold. In May, the segment showed a 62.14% drop.
The jump recorded in June remains a glimmer of hope for a sector that has suffered for nearly three months, the same source specifies.
