Morocco Authorities Seize 2.7 Tons of Suspected Adulterated Olive Oil Near Berrechid

The Royal Gendarmerie of Deroua seized 2.7 tons of allegedly adulterated olive oil in a gas station in the city center, located near Berrechid.
The gendarmes managed to seize this significant quantity of oil during a routine check. During this operation conducted under the supervision of the regional command of the Royal Gendarmerie of Berrechid, they also seized three light vehicles and arrested five people. A sixth person managed to escape, reports Kech24.
The olive oil and the seized vehicles have been handed over to the justice system. As for the five suspects, they have been placed in custody. They will be brought before the King’s prosecutor at the court of first instance in Berrechid, who will decide whether or not to place them in detention.
The soaring olive oil prices, due to the persistent drought that has been affecting Morocco for several years, has led to the spread of adulterated oils. Industry professionals are multiplying calls for strengthened controls and the implementation of punitive measures against fraudsters.
