Morocco’s Attack Struggles Against Defensive Tactics, Says Former Star Chippo

Analyzing the performance of the Atlas Lions after their victory over Lesotho (1-0) on Monday, during the second round of qualifications for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Morocco, Youssef Chippo, a former Moroccan international, stressed the ability of the Moroccan attack to break through an opaque opposing defense.
"All the teams that will face Morocco will adopt the same strategy as the Lesotho team, namely a constant defensive block," Chippo said on the BeIN Sports microphone, stating that the Atlas Lions failed to create chances and break through the solid opposing defense.
The former player also criticized Regragui’s coaching, which put inexperienced players to the test at the start of the match, before making corrections in the second half. Despite these changes, which slightly improved the Moroccan game, Regragui’s men were unable to capitalize on the bulk of their attacks, he observed.
Walid Regragui will have to work to meet this challenge in the next matches. "The national team will face great difficulties in the future if it does not find tactical solutions against teams that rely on a defensive block," Chippo said.
And he continued: "When you face a very compact defensive team, you always need a player capable of breaking through thanks to his individual skills, which is what Díaz did." The Madrid striker scored the only goal of the match in stoppage time, in the 93rd minute.
