Morocco’s Atlas Lions Roar to 7th Straight World Cup Qualifier Win, Crushing Zambia’s Hopes

The Moroccan national football team continued its flawless run in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers by defeating Zambia 2-0 on Monday, September 8th in Lusaka. Already qualified, the Atlas Lions recorded a seventh consecutive victory in this Group E, thanks to goals from Youssef En-Nesyri and Hamza Igamane.
Walid Regragui’s players quickly took the lead, opening the scoring as early as the 7th minute through Youssef En-Nesyri. This early goal put the Zambian team in difficulty, who were hoping for a good result to aim for second place in the group. Despite a Zambian attempt to equalize halfway through the first half, goalkeeper Yassine Bounou made a decisive save to preserve his team’s lead until half-time.
After the break, Morocco doubled their lead thanks to a strike from Hamza Igamane (48th). Despite several changes made by the Zambian coach, the "Copper Bullets" failed to deceive the vigilance of Yassine Bounou, who stood out again and was saved by his crossbar in the 74th minute.
With this victory, Morocco consolidates its first place with 21 points. Zambia remains third with 6 points, four behind Tanzania, who occupy second place. This ranking remains provisional pending the result of the match between Tanzania and Niger on Tuesday.
