Morocco Assures 6-Month Food Supply Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Morocco is not threatened by a shortage of basic necessities due to the coronavirus. These are the words of Hassan Abyaba, government spokesman, who wanted to reassure the population.
Morocco has enough to allow its population to live for more than six months. In addition to the country’s agricultural products, this stock of food includes "oils, wheat, flour, gas, canned goods, and dried vegetables". As for other consumer products, such as diesel, fuel oil and gasoline, "Morocco has a stock covering a consumption period of more than three months", according to the government spokesman.
These refined products that Morocco currently has were imported before the current drop, which explains why the impact of the drop in the price of a barrel on consumer prices remains low. However, "a significant drop is foreseeable in the coming days", adds the same source.
The creation of a strategic vigilance commission that "will monitor the evolution of markets and sources of supply on a daily basis" is announced, according to Abyaba. He reassures that the department of Moulay Hafid Elalamy is also "studying the means of support in favor of small and medium-sized enterprises in the event of a significant impact of Covid-19".
