Morocco Arrests Over 2,200 for Violating COVID-19 Emergency Measures

In Morocco, 2,268 individuals, including 1,402 placed in custody, were apprehended for non-compliance with the state of health emergency over the past 24 hours.
In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) specified that the other people arrested were subjected to investigation, identification and identity verification procedures. Since the date of the declaration of the state of health emergency by the public authorities throughout the Kingdom, 26,579 individuals, including 14,143, have been brought before the competent public prosecutors after the custody procedure, the same source said.
Regarding the distribution of arrests by region, the Casablanca police prefecture is in the lead, with 4,033 people arrested, followed by the Rabat police prefecture (3,513), the Kenitra police prefecture (3,149), the Oujda police prefecture (2,696), the Marrakech police prefecture (2,408), the Agadir police prefecture (2,127), the Salé provincial security (1,953), the Beni Mellal police prefecture (973), the Fez police prefecture (913).
These police prefectures are supplemented by those of Meknes (742), Tetouan (586), Ouarzazate (561), El Jadida (550), Settat (527), Errachidia (446), Tangier (444), Laayoune (393), Safi (242), Taza (204) and Al Hoceima (119).
Furthermore, the DGSN maintains that its services will continue to intensify control operations in all cities and coordinate their interventions with the various public authorities in order to enforce the strict and correct application of the state of emergency, in order to guarantee the health security of all citizens.
