Morocco Approves New Thyroid Medications, Easing Patient Concerns

Patients suffering from thyroid disorders can breathe a sigh of relief. The marketing on the Moroccan market of two new "Levothyroxine"-based drugs has just been authorized by the Ministry of Health.
According to a press release published on Friday by the Ministry of Health, the initiative responds to a promise made by the supervisory authority, which intends to strengthen the therapeutic offer, especially concerning drugs in a monopoly situation and whose regular shortages cause inconvenience to patients suffering from thyroid disorders.
The same source informs that the first drug is presented in the form of a 50 μg tablet in boxes of 50 and 100 tablets, while the second is presented in the form of an oral solution. While the public retail price of the first one is already approved, for the second product, the arrangements are underway to reach the same result.
While waiting to be able to obtain the two new drugs in question soon, patients can already rejoice in the approach of the ministry which "aims to fight against stock shortages of certain drugs and to promote the use of generic drugs, while facilitating access to effective and quality medicines".
Furthermore, the same press release indicates that another challenge for the supervisory authority is also to encourage the local pharmaceutical industry given its strong contribution to the development of the national economy.
