Morocco Approves Major Offshore Gas Project Near Larache to Boost Domestic Energy Supply

Chariot Oil & Gas, a company specializing in oil and gas exploration, and its partner, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) have concluded, on Tuesday, March 2, a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry as part of the implementation of the Anchois project, a drilling area located off the coast of Larache. The Anchois field will become a major gas supplier to the Moroccan market.
This agreement implies that the ministry will support the Anchois project. It is a question of promoting job creation, regional integration through the development of strategic infrastructure and the promotion of clean and competitive energy for the Moroccan industrial sector. It is also planned that the Anchois field will become a major gas supplier to the Moroccan market.
"We continue to support the development of domestic gas prospects to support the rapidly growing industrial sector in Morocco and contribute to its global competitiveness by providing a cheap, clean and reliable source of energy," said Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy. According to his department, this gas project can contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions, the diversification of the energy mix and the reduction of Morocco’s dependence on imported fuels.
Prior to the signing of this agreement, Chariot Gas and Oil had announced its collaboration with Subsea Integration Alliance, which will allow the front-end design, engineering, procurement, construction, installation and operation of the Anchois Gas Development project in Morocco. According to an independent assessment carried out in 2020, the potential of the Anchois gas field is estimated at one trillion cubic feet of gas.
