Morocco’s Anti-Corruption Hotline Leads to 217 Arrests, 67,000 Calls Received

In mid-May, around 67,000 calls were received on the telephone line dedicated to reporting acts of corruption in Morocco, according to Ghita Mezzour, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.
This line was set up in 2018 to participate in the fight against corruption. Thus, according to the details provided by Minister Ghita Mezzour, 67,000 calls were received on this line as of May 14. She was responding to an oral question presented by the group of the General Confederation of Enterprises of Morocco (CGEM) to the House of Advisors on "the outcome of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy".
These calls received led to 217 arrests of suspects in flagrante delicto, at a rate of two cases per week. These include employees in the public and private sectors in all regions of the Kingdom. The minister indicated that the fight against corruption is at the center of the government’s priorities, which is committed to strengthening trust between the user and the administration.
In addition to the implementation of a set of projects aimed at improving transparency and integrity within the administrations, the electronic portals "chafafiya.ma", "chikaya.ma" and "opendata" have recorded 33,000 visits from 130 countries, the minister specified, stating that these mechanisms allow the citizen to obtain information from the administrations in a framework of transparency.
