Morocco and Turkey to Renegotiate Free Trade Agreement Amid Trade Deficit Concerns

After a meeting with his counterpart, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry and Trade announced on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, that Morocco and Turkey will revise their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) due to a trade deficit.
"We have decided to revise some provisions of this agreement, giving ourselves an appointment in 15 days," Moulay Hafid Elalamy told the press. He indicated that there are certain points to be modified in terms of Moroccan and Turkish exports and imports.
"It is an obvious fact that we have reached. I insisted that Turkish investments develop further in Morocco," continued the minister, specifying that the meeting between him and his Turkish counterpart, at the head of a delegation of businessmen from his country, was fruitful.
The two parties will meet in 15 days to "finalize the revision of the FTA, so that it is fairer on its trade balance."
