Morocco and Spain Foreign Ministers Meet to Advance Bilateral Roadmap

In Madrid, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and his Spanish counterpart discussed, this Friday, November 11, 2022, the follow-up to the implementation of the roadmap and the upcoming holding of the High-Level Meeting between the two countries.
On Twitter, José Manuel Albares, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, was pleased to have had "a good meeting with Nasser Bourita to advance on the development of the roadmap and the High-Level Meeting." The high-level meeting should be held in early 2023. For now, Morocco and Spain have not yet set the date for its holding.
The organization of this meeting is part of the agreements concluded between the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, and King Mohammed VI, at the end of the Spanish President’s visit to Rabat on April 7 last. This visit marked the end of the long diplomatic crisis between the two countries and the beginning of a new "unprecedented" stage in their relations. This bilateral meeting has not been held for several years, among other things because of Spain’s position on the Sahara, Ok Diario had recalled. A position that Madrid has changed.
"Spain considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented in 2007, as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of the dispute," Pedro Sánchez had affirmed in a letter addressed to King Mohammed VI.
