Morocco and Russia Begin Talks on New Fisheries Agreement Worth Millions

The Minister of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries, Aziz Akhannouch, has opened negotiations for a new fisheries agreement with Russia.
According to le360, the negotiations will be initiated with a view to signing a new fisheries agreement, to replace the current one which expires on March 15, 2020. They cover the conditions of high-sea fishing, in Moroccan territorial waters, the conditions of access to fishery resources as well as the conditions of a financial compensation.
This agreement covers a total quota of 129,500 tons, in return for an annual financial compensation of around $22 million, in addition to the payment by Moscow of nearly $8 million for scientific research and port fees.
Furthermore, this fisheries agreement also provides for the provision of 350 jobs per year for Moroccan sailors.
