Morocco and Russia Aim to Boost Agricultural Trade with ’Green Corridor’ Initiative

Strengthening trade in agricultural products is now one of the priorities of Morocco and Russia, with the "green corridor" as a major act of this cooperation. The announcement was made by officials from the two countries during the Forum of Russian Agricultural Exporters held recently in the kingdom.
During a videoconference held on October 15, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Sergueï Levine, expressed their intention to strengthen trade in agricultural products between the two countries. This announcement was made on the occasion of the official opening of the Forum of Russian Agricultural Exporters in Morocco.
As part of the many agreements and conventions signed since 2012, there is the creation of a "green corridor". Its objective is to put in place a strategy to facilitate and promote trade in agricultural products (cereals, oils and fats, dairy, confectionery, etc.). At the same time, the green corridor must also be an accelerator of trade between Morocco and Russia.
To recall, Morocco is Russia’s leading commercial partner in Africa. Thus, Morocco’s exports to Russia amounted to 1.8 billion dirhams during the 2015-2019 period. During the same period, the volume of agricultural trade amounted to 2.9 billion dirhams.
