Morocco and Japan Sign Agreements to Boost Economic Ties and Investment

On the sidelines of the 5th Morocco-Japan Joint Commission, the two countries signed two agreements and a convention on Wednesday, January 8 in Rabat, with a view to strengthening their bilateral cooperation.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Delegate Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mohcine Jazouli, and the Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Keisuke Suziki.
The two agreements and the convention complement the legal framework governing the economic relations between the two countries and strengthen Japanese investments in Morocco, according to the Map.
The first agreement concerns the promotion and protection of investment. It aims to create favorable conditions for investments in the territory of each country, in order to promote economic and bilateral relations.
The second is an agreement in the form of an exchange of notes relating to a grant of equipment for the benefit of the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR). This agreement is part of the Japanese program "The Economic and Social Development Program", the objective of which is to equip five production workshops in Moroccan prisons.
Mohcine Jazouli and Keisuke Suziki also signed a convention to avoid double taxation on income taxes and to prevent tax evasion and fraud. This applies to persons residing in the territory of the two parties and covers income taxes in both countries.
