Morocco and Israel Sign Strategic Economic Partnership, Boosting Trade and Tech Cooperation

Cooperation between Morocco and Israel is taking on a new dimension with the signing, on Monday, March 22, of a strategic partnership agreement to promote economic and commercial relations and technological development between the two countries. The event took place by videoconference, between the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), Chakib Alj, the President of The Israeli Employers and Business Organizations (IEBO) and the Manufacturers Association of Israel (MAI), Ron Tomer, as well as the President of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce (FICC), Uriel Lynn.

This agreement will establish an open and permanent dialogue between the CGEM and IEBO, who will work to establish an exchange of information and experience in areas of common interest such as import-export, Research and Development (R&D), innovation and technology. "We are confident that this agreement constitutes a new step towards a strong, sustainable partnership that creates synergies between Moroccan and Israeli companies," said Chakib Alj in a statement to the press on the sidelines of the signing ceremony. He stressed that the restoration of relations between Morocco and Israel opens up very promising economic prospects.

For his part, the president of IEBO and MAI said he was pleased to witness the renewal of economic and commercial relations between Israel and Morocco. "The roots of many Israelis are in Morocco where a large Jewish community has thrived for many years. Therefore, it is only natural for us today to renew and strengthen the relationship between our two countries, by creating a true long-term partnership in favor of the promotion of trade cooperation," he stressed.

As for the president of the FICC, he stated that Israel and Morocco maintain "a strong relationship that lasts over time". He believes that Morocco is geographically better placed to be a liaison bridge between North Africa and Israeli companies. He also raised that "Israel could contribute to the development of Morocco in the fields of modern agriculture, technological equipment, irrigation and water technologies, solar energy and technological cooperation with the European Union".

The president of the Morocco-Israel Business Council, Steve O’Hana, for his part, noted that "this partnership will be fruitful given the motivations that are specific to Moroccan and Israeli operators". He says he is proud to play an important role in this process that has started and aims to strengthen trade between the two countries.
