Morocco and Algeria Deny Plans for Pre-AFCON Friendly Match

Faced with rumors from several media reporting a probable friendly match between the Atlas Lions and the Algerian Fennecs in the run-up to the next African Cup of Nations (Egypt, from June 21 to July 19), Médias24 contacted Hakim Medane, who denies any contact between the two federations.

Initially, Hakim Medane (the General Manager of the Algerian national team and also a member of the federal office of the Algerian Football Federation) admitted that the Algerian Federation has not received any such request from its Moroccan counterpart. And he added that "we have almost completed our preparation program for the CAN and I imagine that the Moroccan technical staff has done the same. We are finalizing it and we have not planned to play a friendly match against the Moroccan team."

In short, the sports press of the two countries has just sensationalized, to raise the adrenaline among the supporters on the eve of the greatest football event taking place on the African continent.

During this interview, our colleagues from Media24 also discussed with the General Manager other issues related to the participation of the Fennecs in this CAN. Even though the two teams are not in the same group, Hakim Medane thinks that "the Moroccans have a somewhat complicated group, the same for Algeria." According to him, the ideal would be to find the two teams at an advanced stage of the competition."

Regarding the Algerian offensive potential that seduces more than one and positions the team as a big favorite, the General Manager of the Fennecs says he has a modest triumph. According to him, Algeria cannot necessarily be considered a favorite in this CAN, especially since "we were eliminated in the first round, in the previous edition. Moreover, it has been a long time since we have played a semi-final of the CAN." As for the preparation of the Fennecs which would be planned to take place in the United Arab Emirates, Hakim Medane says he wants to leave it to the coach Djamel Belmadi to "refine the preparation of the Greens without leaving anything to chance."
