Morocco and UK Aim to Boost $1.6 Billion Agricultural Trade Partnership

The meeting between Aziz Akhannouch and Liam Fox, respectively Moroccan Minister of Agriculture and British Minister of International Trade, on Thursday, May 30, 2019, aims to develop the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of agriculture and fishing.
More than 16 billion Dirhams, annually, between 2016 and 2018. This is the volume reached by trade relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom in the field of agriculture. In the fishing sector, the European country ranks 13th in 2018, at 1.4% of the kingdom’s exports, and 10th in 2017.
Figures that the partner countries want to see improve in the coming years. To achieve this, a prerequisite, according to the Press Release of the Ministry of Agriculture, sanctioning the bilateral ministerial meeting: "to identify the various areas of cooperation that can be strengthened in the short and medium term between the two countries in the fields of agriculture and fisheries."
In addition, an important factor will weigh in the balance: the Brexit situation currently facing the United Kingdom. The prospects for future trade cooperation between Morocco and the European Union (EU) will also influence the analysis and subsequent decisions.
