Morocco Allocates $59 Million to Revive Tourism and Support Aviation Sector

Heavily impacted this year by Covid-19 and its corollaries, tourism and air transport are receiving a breath of fresh air from the government. For the year 2021, the supervisory ministry benefits from more than 534 million DH to relaunch tourism activities that have been sluggish since last March and support the air transport sector which is facing an unprecedented crisis.
In detail, this budget has allocated 142.6 million DH for the central administration in 2021, i.e. a 52% decrease compared to 2020, 16.9 million DH for training establishments. Subsidies are also planned for the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the Moroccan Tourist Engineering Company (SMIT), respectively in the order of 300 million DH and 134.7 million DH, specifies the supervising minister.
For Minister Nadia Fettah, the ONMT’s budget has not been reduced in order to further promote domestic tourism and regain the market shares lost following the health crisis due to the coronavirus.
Regarding crafts and the social economy, the minister explains that a budget (excluding staff expenses) of nearly 321.5 million DH is allocated to this sub-sector in 2021. It is divided between operating (145.86 million DH) and investment (175.63 million DH), she recalled.
While the central administration inherits 220.48 million DH, the budgets of the Office for the Development of Cooperation (BDECo), the Maison de l’Artisan, the Chambers of Crafts and the state-managed services (vocational training establishments) are respectively 33 million DH, 40 million DH, 26.3 million DH and 1.7 million DH and 1.71 MDH, she added.
