Morocco Allocates 82 Million Dirhams to Support Sports Federations Amid Pandemic

Through a series of addenda to the objectives conventions, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports is coming to the rescue of the actors in the sports world. Several million dirhams have been allocated to the sports world.
The signing of addenda to the objectives conventions with 35 sports federations, for the payment of subsidies totaling 82 million dirhams, i.e. a renewal of last year’s budget, despite the suspension of competitions and sports practices during confinement, indicates the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in a press release.
This means that the suspension of competitions due to confinement did not impact the initial envelope amount. The government, through this press release, marks its willingness to change the status of 32 football clubs: to become sports companies. In this sense, the ministry pays into the coffers of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation a subsidy of 2.5 million dirhams for each of the 32 clubs, i.e. a total of 80 million dirhams. This disbursement will help improve the capacity of these clubs, to the point of interesting potential sponsors, sales of licenses.
The Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, also a beneficiary, comes out with the settlement of its arrears (7 million dirhams) supported by a subsidy of 50 million dirhams.
Finally, women’s sport. The minister announces the upcoming launch of a promotion campaign for this sector, in order to raise awareness among both sports facility managers, coaches and parents. In addition, the government says it remains open to proposals for innovative projects of national scope; a hashtag (#fikraryadia) is made available for this purpose.
