Morocco’s Alcohol Tax Revenue Surges to 619 Million Dirhams in First Half of 2021

Taxes on the consumption of alcohol and beer brought in about 619 million dirhams to the state’s accounts in the first half of 2021. This is indicated by data from the General Treasury of the Kingdom (TGR).
Taxes on wine and alcohol amount to 316 million DH at the end of June, while the state expects 651 million DH in revenue by the end of the year, the same data analyzed by Hespress shows. As for the revenue from Moroccan consumption, particularly beer, it reached about 303 million dirhams, while the state plans to receive around 800 million DH by the end of 2021. As for soft drinks, the revenue amounts to 206 million DH at the end of June 2021, for an annual forecast of 450 million DH.
In addition to alcohol, the tobacco sector has also brought in a lot of money to the state treasury. In total, 5.2 billion DH in turnover was achieved in the first half of the current year, while the 2021 Finance Act provides for a turnover of 11.2 billion DH by the end of the year. As for corporate taxes, the revenue amounts to 22.6 billion DH in the first half of the current year, which should reach 38.6 billion DH at the end of 2021. As for income tax, the revenue is around 24.3 billion DH at the end of June 2021 for an annual forecast of 40 billion DH by the end of December 2021.
In total, the state’s general resources at the end of June 2021 show around 228 billion DH, while total expenditure amounts to 230 billion DH.
