Morocco’s Airports Soar to New Heights: 12 Million Passengers in First Half of 2023

The National Airports Office (ONDA) announces an unprecedented record for the first half of 2023. Let’s look at the figures in detail.
With more than 12 million passengers welcomed, an increase of 5% compared to the same period in 2019, Moroccan airports are posting very good figures. Growth that mainly concerns the airports of Tangier (+42%), Oujda (+32%), Nador (+25%), Fez (+17%), Agadir (+13%) and Marrakech (+10%), as specified by ONDA.
At the same time, domestic traffic is recovering growth. ONDA reveals that the number of domestic passengers reached 1.16 million during the first half of the year, a recovery of 83% compared to the same period in 2019. For its part, international air traffic recorded an increase of 7% with more than 11 million passengers, a performance driven by the good health of the European and North American markets, which are showing double-digit growth rates of +13% and +22% respectively.
The first half of 2023 also saw 97,071 aircraft movements, equivalent to a recovery rate of 98% compared to 2019. The Mohammed V, Marrakech Menara and Agadir Al Massira airports account for a significant share of this traffic with 38%, 24% and 8% respectively. However, air freight is showing a more modest recovery with a recovery rate of 76%, reaching 37,168 tons compared to 48,696 tons recorded in 2019.
