Morocco’s Airports See 56% Recovery in Passenger Traffic, Invest in Modernization

Moroccan airports should welcome 14 million passengers in 2022, or 56% of the 2019 level, according to the National Airports Authority.
Reviewing the past year, the authority said that several investment programs have been carried out to modernize Moroccan airports in order to increase their reception capacity.
Thus, the investment expenditure incurred in 2021 reached 832 million dirhams, and the turnover stood at more than 2 billion dirhams, a decrease of 52% compared to 2019 and an increase of +29% compared to 2020.
Similarly, ONDA claims to have made a lot of efforts to preserve the health and safety of airport staff and users, in a context marked by the prolongation of the health crisis and to ensure the availability of critical equipment and infrastructure. These efforts have enabled 16 Moroccan airports to obtain the Airport Health Accreditation label issued by the Airports Council International, it recalled.
In its forecasts for this year, the authority estimates that air traffic should reach 14 million passengers, or 56% of the 2019 traffic, and overflying activity should reach 67% of the 2019 level.
For 2022, ONDA has allocated an envelope of 2 billion DH, to continue its investment program in airports. 50% of this budget is intended to continue the development of airport capacities, it is specified.
