Morocco Airports Forecast 15 Million Passengers in 2022 as Aviation Sector Rebounds

About 15 million travelers will set foot on Moroccan soil in 2022, according to forecasts communicated by the National Airports Office (ONDA).
Strongly shaken by the Covid-19 crisis, the civil aviation ecosystem will experience an upturn next year. Far from the recorded performance, this resurgence of activity is estimated at 60% of the level reached two years earlier, according to the report of public establishments and enterprises (EEP) contained in the 2022 Finance Act.
In a program covering the period 2022-2024, the National Airports Office (ONDA) plans to invest 1.55 billion dirhams in 2022, 2.08 billion dirhams in 2023 and 1.83 billion dirhams in 2024, which will be largely dedicated to extensions and the development of airport capacities (Rabat, Tangier, Agadir, Dakhla, Tetouan, Al Hoceima...).
It is thus planned 15 million passengers in 2022, then 20 million in 2023 before finding, in 2024, a normal activity close to that of the year 2019 (25 million passengers)," the report states.
The same source points out that for the 2021 closing forecasts, the turnover in the sector would reach more than 2.06 billion dirhams, up 31% compared to 2020 following the gradual resumption of international flights. The provisional net result for 2021 is estimated at a loss of 1.4 billion dirhams, while the 2021 closing forecasts for investments amount to more than 1 billion dirhams.
