Morocco Aims to Double Date Production to 300,000 Tons by 2030

Morocco intends to mobilize its efforts and resources to double its date production, reaching 300,000 tons per year, compared to 149,000 tons in 2021.
Present at the 11th International Date Fair (Sidattes 2022), organized from October 27 to 30 in Erfoud, the Ministry of Agriculture unveiled its prospects in the date sector. According to the roadmap, the kingdom wants to improve its production by 2030 to reach 300,000 tons per year, compared to 149,000 tons in 2021. And to meet this major challenge, the kingdom plans to rely on the measures contained in the new Génération Green 2020-2030 strategy.
Specifically, reports the newspaper Les Inspirations Eco, the kingdom plans, among other things, to plant 5 million plants, including 3 million in the traditional palm grove. Added to this is the installation of additional capacities of 44,000 tons for cold storage, 132,000 tons for packaging and 25,000 tons for processing.
According to ministry data, the turnover in the sector is on a clear upward trend, with sales exceeding 28 million dirhams and the conclusion of orders of more than 660 tons. Note that the show saw the participation of 236 exhibitors and 9 foreign countries (the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Mauritania, Turkey and Belgium).
