Morocco Aims to Continue Dominance Over Tanzania in Africa Cup of Nations Opener

Morocco will face Tanzania this Wednesday as part of the first day of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. The two teams have already crossed paths five times in the last decade, with four wins for the Atlas Lions against one for the Taifa Stars.
The first match between Morocco and Tanzania, which took place on October 9, 2010 as part of the qualifications for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, ended in a victory for the Moroccan team (1-0), with a goal from Mounir El Hamdaoui. For the return match played on October 9, 2011, the Atlas Lions confirmed their supremacy by winning 3-1, with goals from Marouane Chamakh, Adel Taarabt and Mbark Boussoufa, recalls Alyaoum24.
The third match between the two teams took place on March 24, 2013, as part of the qualifications for the 2014 World Cup. The Moroccan team, then led by Rachid Taoussi, lost this match in Dar es Salaam 3-1, before taking their revenge in the return match at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on June 8, 2013. The Atlas Lions won this match 2-1, with goals from Abderrazak Hamdallah and Youssef El Arabi.
The fifth match between the Atlas Lions and the Taifa Stars took place on November 21, 2023 in Dar es Salaam, as part of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. A match that ended in a 2-0 victory for the Moroccan team, with goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri.
Morocco and Tanzania will therefore play their sixth match this Wednesday at 6 pm at the Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pedro, as part of the first day of the Africa Cup of Nations. The two teams share Group F with Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
