Morocco Aims for Bronze in Olympic Football After Historic Semi-Final Run

The Moroccan Olympic team does not want to return home without a medal. Failing to win gold, Tarik Sektioui’s team hopes to win bronze by defeating Egypt on Thursday.
After a historic run, the Atlas Lions were eliminated by Spain (1-2) in the semi-finals of the Paris Olympic football tournament. In eight participations, this is the first time Morocco has reached this level of the competition. The Moroccan Olympic team had been eliminated in the group stage at the 1964, 1984, 1992, 2000, 2004, and 2012 editions and reached the quarter-finals at the 1972 Munich Olympics. After successive failures, they missed the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Achraf Hakimi and his teammates will face Egypt, eliminated by France (1-3) in the semi-finals, for third place on Thursday. Tarik Sektioui’s men hope to win this match and return to the country with the bronze medal. A way to conclude their participation in these Paris Games in style, after their victories over Argentina (2-1) and Iraq (3-0), and their defeat against Ukraine (1-2), finishing first in Group B with 6 points, not to mention their resounding victory over the United States (4-0) in the quarter-finals.
Morocco and Egypt will face off on Thursday at the La Beaujoire stadium in Nantes for the third place of the Paris 2024 Olympic football tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 pm Moroccan time.
