Morocco Aims to Boost Senior Tourism as Retiree Destination Gains Popularity

While senior tourism is developing strongly worldwide, the kingdom is still lagging behind in its promotion. Yet, many retirees prefer the Morocco destination.
In total, 40,000 foreign seniors choose to stay in Morocco for a long time, according to AIUTA. The French are in the lead with 20,000 or 25,000 retirees, followed by the British and Germans, reports L’Economiste.
The same source indicates that this number could reach one million European residents within 10 years. However, "there is not yet a public tourism and university policy in favor of retired people," notes Mohsine El Ahmadi, professor at FSJES Cadi Ayyad.
Based on this observation, it is important that Morocco seriously addresses the issue. The authorities involved in the tourism sector will indeed have to promote this type of tourism by developing a policy that meets the expectations of retirees and is profitable for the Moroccan economy.
