Morocco Aims to Boost Airport Capacity to 60 Million Passengers by 2030

Morocco has unveiled its new ambitions for the aviation and tourism sectors in 2023. This was during the Connect 2023, held in Tangier until February 24.
"The national airport network currently offers a capacity to accommodate 39 million passengers per year and is set to develop even further," said Habiba Laklalech, Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA) on the sidelines of Connect 2023. The ambition of his office is to reach 60 million passengers by 2030, reports the daily Les Inspirations Éco. To meet this challenge, ONDA is banking on securing and retaining traditional tourist-generating markets in Europe, but also on the massive arrival of Asian tourists, particularly from China.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) also has great ambitions, the indicators communicated by various national officials in charge of these strategic sectors having shown that Morocco is on the verge of reaching its pre-Covid-19 crisis level. "At the end of 2022, Morocco’s programming by airlines has exceeded the pre-health crisis level," said Adel El Fakir, Director General of ONMT. Last year, tourist arrivals stood at 10.9 million.
For 2023, ONMT aims, in terms of capacity, for 8.2 million seats. Several agreements and partnerships have already been signed between the Office and several airlines. In total, 35 new routes serving eight Moroccan destinations will be activated during the 2023 summer season, in partnership with ten airlines, it is specified.
