Morocco Aims to Become Global Leader in Green Hydrogen Production

Leveraging its potential, Morocco is keen to develop its green hydrogen production. Several initiatives have already been taken.
A study carried out in 2018 places Morocco among the 6 countries capable of exporting hydrogen, reports Aujourd’hui Le Maroc. "Its ecosystem has recognized expertise and enjoys great credibility with donors and international partners," confirms Badr Ikken, Director General of IRESEN, who adds that wind power will play a much more important role than solar as a source of clean energy, given the load factors that can reach up to 70%.
The Kingdom could capture 4 to 8% of the global hydrogen market, or a potential of 150 to 400 billion euros, confirms a study.
Combined with nitrogen, hydrogen will allow Morocco to save the 2 million tons of ammonia imported annually in the long term, not to mention the recycling of carbon to produce synthetic methanol, synthetic kerosene or even synthetic diesel...
The newspaper recalls that on the eve of the launch of its "hydrogen" vision, Morocco signed an agreement with Germany, the largest economic power in Europe. For its part, the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is already investing in a benchmark project on hybridization.
