Morocco’s Aguerd Likely to Miss Key World Cup Qualifiers Due to Injury

The Moroccan defender of Real Sociedad, Nayef Aguerd, felt severe pain in his thigh on Sunday, during the match against Leganés (3-0) in La Liga. Due to this injury, the Atlas Lion will likely be absent for Morocco’s decisive matches against Niger and Tanzania, scheduled in March as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Nayef Aguerd had to be substituted in the 32nd minute due to intense pain in his thigh and was replaced by Jon Martín. A blow for his club, Real Sociedad, who won the victory against Leganés on Sunday, but also for the Moroccan team who are preparing to face Niger and Tanzania in March, as part of the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup.
The 28-year-old defender is one of the pillars of the Moroccan team on whom coach Walid Regragui is counting on to make the difference in these decisive matches. With this injury, Nayef Aguerd’s participation in these two matches becomes uncertain, forcing the Moroccan coach to find a replacement.
According to the Spanish newspaper Relevo, the Moroccan international would suffer from the same thigh muscle injury that had already kept him away from the pitch for a long period. The Atlas Lion should undergo thorough medical examinations to determine the severity of his injury and the necessary recovery time.
Moroccan supporters hope that Nayef Aguerd will be able to recover quickly from his injury and join his national team teammates in order to take part in these matches. It should be recalled that the defender joined Real Sociedad on loan from West Ham for a season last September.
